The best wedding venues in Mauritius

Lagoon blue water, private island ceremonies and some of the easiest legal paperwork for foreigners anywhere. Here is where to marry in Mauritius, and when.

Last reviewed May 2026
Our verdict

Mauritius is one of the strongest balances of luxury and value in the world, and it is genuinely easy for foreigners to marry here legally. The classic resorts line the calm east coast, with private island ceremonies a real draw.

It is a long flight, roughly twelve hours from Europe, so it rewards couples who turn the wedding into a longer stay. Resort capacities are configured per event, so confirm exact numbers directly.

Time it for the dry winter and you get reliable sun. The cyclone season from November to April is hotter and wetter, though serious storms are uncommon.

The quick answer

One&Only Le Saint Geran is the blue chip classic for larger weddings, Four Seasons at Anahita offers a genuine private island ceremony, and Royal Palm Beachcomber is the most intimate and exclusive. Marry from May to November for the dry season, and as two foreigners you can legally marry after only a short publication period once your documents are verified.

When to marry here

Marry in the dry winter.

The dry winter, roughly May to November, is the most reliable, with cooler, sunnier days. The cyclone season runs November to April, with peak risk from January to March. Cyclones are not frequent, but humidity and rain are higher, so April and the September to November window are sweet spots for warmth with fewer crowds.

Cost and logistics

The practical things, told straight.

Getting there

All flights use Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the south east. Direct flights from Europe run roughly eleven and a half to twelve and a half hours, for example from London or Paris on Air Mauritius and British Airways. Most resorts are within about an hour of the airport.

Where guests stay

Most couples and guests stay at the resort, which makes a multi day celebration simple. The east coast holds the classic resorts and the calmest lagoons, while Grand Baie in the north pairs an intimate resort with a livelier village a short walk away.

The legal bit

For two foreigners Mauritius is genuinely easy, with the marriage celebrated after only a short publication period of about a day once you are in country. Documents must reach the Central Civil Status Office at least a month ahead, planners advise six to eight weeks. The widely cited seven day residency rule applies only when marrying a Mauritian citizen.

What it costs

A ceremony for the couple alone can start around two to four thousand euros. A full wedding with fifty to eighty guests commonly runs about twelve to twenty five thousand euros, and intimate weddings from around eight thousand, excluding flights and rooms. Figures are indicative, reviewed May 2026.

Common questions

Mauritius, answered.

Do we have to live in Mauritius for days before we can marry?

+

No, not as two foreigners. You generally need only a publication period of about a day after submitting verified documents in country, so couples typically arrive a few days early. The seven day residency rule applies only when marrying a Mauritian citizen.

Is a Mauritius wedding legally valid back home?

+

A civil marriage performed by a Civil Status Officer is legally registered in Mauritius and recognised in most countries, and you receive an official certificate. Confirm any home country registration or apostille steps with your own authorities.

When should we send our paperwork?

+

Documents must reach the Central Civil Status Office at least a month before the date, and planners recommend six to eight weeks ahead to allow for verification and any translations.

When is the best time to marry weather wise?

+

May to November, the dry winter, is the safest bet. November to April is the cyclone season with peak risk from January to March. Serious cyclones are uncommon, but it is hotter and more humid then.

How much should we budget?

+

A couple only ceremony can start under two to four thousand euros. A full wedding with fifty to eighty guests commonly runs twelve to twenty five thousand euros, excluding flights and rooms, and intimate guest weddings from around eight thousand.
