Fjord like bays, Venetian stone towns and a coastline that still feels like a secret. Here is where to marry on the Adriatic, and how to do it well.
Montenegro is the Adriatic at a quieter pitch than Italy or Croatia, with the dramatic Bay of Kotor at its heart. You can have genuine grandeur at the top end and real character in between, often for less than the better known neighbours.
The trade off is scale. Many of the most romantic settings are intimate, and the largest reliable ballrooms sit in the newer resorts. Decide your guest count first and the field narrows quickly.
Roads are slow and taxis scarce, so plan transfers and consider a boat for arrivals across the bay.
Aman Sveti Stefan is the most cinematic address in the country, One&Only Portonovi is the most flexible for guest counts up to around two hundred, and the Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay handles the largest lists. Marry in late May, June or September, and plan the legal paperwork carefully or register at home.
The order reflects our honest view of the wedding, not who pays us. None of them can.
The most cinematic and exclusive address in the country, intimate in scale and priced to match.
The most flexible top tier choice, scaling from a micro celebration to a banquet of two hundred.
Polished marina glamour with a true range of indoor and garden settings.
The best choice for a genuinely large guest list with reliable five star infrastructure.
One of the most romantic medium sized waterfront settings, with a serious in house kitchen.
A stylish small scale option close to Kotor old town. Confirm exact capacity directly.
Late May, June and September are the sweet spots, with long light, warm water and gardens at their best. July and August are beautiful but hot and busy. From November to March many coastal venues wind down.
Tivat airport is closest, about twenty minutes from Kotor and Porto Montenegro and half an hour from Budva. Podgorica offers more year round flights, and Dubrovnik in Croatia has the widest network but adds a border crossing that can be slow in summer.
Cluster a hotel block in Kotor, Tivat, Budva or Herceg Novi. Most venues do not sleep the whole party, so plan transfers and consider chartering a boat to carry guests across the bay in style.
Only a civil ceremony at the municipal marriage office is binding. Foreigners may marry without residence, but documents must be apostilled, translated by a sworn court translator and filed in person, usually about fifteen days ahead. Many couples register at home and hold a symbolic ceremony on the bay.
Indicative budgets run roughly €18,000 to €90,000 and more, driven by guest count and venue tier. Top resorts often start near €25,000 in venue fees alone. Treat any figure as a range, reviewed October 2025, and ask for an itemised quote.

We curate on merit. Venues and planners cannot buy a higher ranking.
Yes. There is no residency or property requirement, but you must submit apostilled, translated documents in person and file in advance, usually around fifteen days before the date. Many couples instead register at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here.
No. Only the civil registrar's ceremony at the marriage office is legal. Ceremonies at venues are usually symbolic, so most couples handle the legal part separately.
Late May, June or September. The light is long, the water is warm and the gardens peak, with smaller crowds and better prices than midsummer. July and August are lovely but hot and busy.
Tivat is closest and easiest for the bay. Podgorica has more year round flights, and Dubrovnik has the widest network but involves a Croatia to Montenegro border crossing that adds time.
Realistically €18,000 to €40,000 for an intimate wedding and €30,000 to €90,000 and more for larger or top resort events. Online ranges are estimates, so always ask for an itemised quote.
