The best wedding venues in Siena

A medieval city of brick and stone in southern Tuscany, ringed by Chianti vineyards and grand country estates. Marry here for history, rolling hills and golden evening light.

Our verdict

Siena is the romantic heart of Tuscany, a perfectly kept medieval city wrapped in the vineyards of Chianti and the Crete Senesi.

The wedding venues are estates and villas in the surrounding hills rather than rooms inside the historic centre, so expect a short drive to a private setting.

It is a touch further from the airports than Lucca or Florence, which is the price you pay for the loveliest countryside in the region.

The quick answer

Siena is a medieval hill city in southern Tuscany, famous for its shell shaped Piazza del Campo and the Palio horse race, surrounded by the vineyards of Chianti and the bare clay hills of the Crete Senesi. The best wedding venues sit in that countryside, a thousand year old Belmond estate, a baroque villa with renowned gardens, and restored farmhouses among the vines, mostly taken on exclusive hire. May, June, September and early October give warm days and long golden light without the fierce heat of high summer. Florence airport is around an hour and a quarter away, so plan transfers for guests.

Why marry here

A medieval city among the vines.

Siena is one of the great set pieces of Italy, a Gothic city of warm brick that tumbles down three hills to the famous Piazza del Campo. Beyond the walls lies the countryside couples picture when they imagine a Tuscan wedding, the silver green of olive groves, ordered rows of Chianti vines and the rippling clay hills of the Crete Senesi. The draw here is space and seclusion, grand estates and villas where you can take the whole property and settle in for a long weekend.

The venues match that mood. Rather than ballrooms in town, Siena offers historic estates such as the Belmond owned Castello di Casole, the baroque Villa Cetinale with its celebrated gardens, and farmhouse estates among the vineyards. These are places for a garden ceremony, a long dinner under the stars and dancing late, with rooms on site or close by so the party stays together.

The honest notes are heat, distance and pace. July and August are hot and dusty, best kept for evening celebrations, while late spring and early autumn are ideal. Siena sits further from the airports than Florence or Lucca, so build in transfer time and lean on a planner who knows these estates. Do that and you have the most quietly romantic corner of Tuscany.

Cost and logistics

The practical things, told straight.

Siena sits in the premium Tuscan bracket, in line with the rest of the region. Treat every figure as indicative and confirm directly, because catering, production and the season move the total far more than the venue fee alone.

What it costs

As an indicative February 2026 guide, a wedding in or near Siena for 50 to 150 guests often lands between EUR 50,000 and EUR 200,000 all in, depending on the estate and how much you produce. A full exclusive hire across several nights sits at the top of that range.

Getting there

Most guests fly into Florence, around an hour and a quarter away, with Pisa and Bologna as alternatives. There is no airport at Siena and the estates are rural, so arrange a car or coach transfers for the party.

The legal bit

Civil, religious and symbolic ceremonies are all possible in Italy, and Siena can host a civil marriage. Many couples handle the legal step at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the estate. A local planner will confirm the current paperwork for your nationality and the comune.

When to marry here

Late May, June, September and early October are the sweet spots, warm and golden without the peak heat of July and August. The hills look their best in early summer and after the first cooler nights of autumn.

Planners and vendors

Siena rewards a planner who knows the estates.

The countryside around Siena has a deep bench of wedding planners, caterers and florists used to running celebrations on private estates where staff and supplies travel in. The right planner will match your style, whether a grand baroque villa or a relaxed farmhouse among the vines, and handle the logistics couples underestimate at a remote property.
