The grand option on Lake Como, a lakefront palace and botanical park that swallows a large guest list with ease, where the scale itself is the statement.
Where the lake's famous small villas cap you at a hundred, Villa Erba goes the other way. Set on the Cernobbio shore in an immense private park, it was the family home of the film director Luchino Visconti and stood in for the lakeside scenes in Ocean's Twelve. The historic villa and its grand salons sit beside a modern exhibition pavilion, which is the honest reason it carries numbers few villas can. If you have a big wedding and want Como without compromise on the guest list, this is the one.
Two honest caveats. Villa Erba is not licensed for a legally binding civil ceremony, so couples hold a symbolic blessing here and complete the legal marriage elsewhere. And there is no accommodation on site, so guests stay across Cernobbio and Como. Plan it with someone who knows the park, and the scale becomes a gift rather than a logistics headache.
As an indicative July 2025 guide, venue hire at Villa Erba starts around EUR 25,000 plus VAT, with a full wedding for a large guest list typically landing well into six figures once catering, production and a marquee are added.
Treat all figures as indicative ranges and confirm directly with the venue.
Villa Erba is a late nineteenth century villa set in one of the largest private parks on the lake, its lawns running from the historic house down to the water. Ceremonies often take place at a romantic wrought iron cupola in the grounds or on the lawn by the shore, while dinner moves into the frescoed salons of the villa or a marquee in the gardens. The scale is the point. This is the venue couples choose when they have two or three hundred people to seat and want them all on the Como shoreline, not split across two locations.
It suits a confident, larger wedding rather than an intimate elopement. For thirty guests the park can feel cavernous, and the venue itself notes it is best suited to events of at least forty to fifty people. For a hundred and fifty or three hundred, it is one of very few addresses on Lake Como that works without compromise. Pair it with a planner who has run a big production in the park, and the famous Como backdrop does the rest.

No. Villa Erba is an event venue rather than a hotel, so guests stay in Cernobbio and Como town, which have grand lakefront hotels and smaller guesthouses within a short drive. Block book early in peak season.

The Lake Como season runs from May to October, with June and September the most reliable for warm, settled weather and the gardens at their best. July and August are hotter and busier, and the lake is at its fullest.
