Our verdict

The most photogenic address on Cap Ferrat, a rose pink palazzo with the sea on two sides and gardens that look unreal even in person.

Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild was built in the early twentieth century by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild on the narrow neck of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, a Belle Époque villa wrapped by nine themed gardens that run down toward the water on both sides. The famous French garden, with its fountains and a Temple of Love at the crest, is the image everyone knows. As an evening setting for drinks and dinner under the Riviera sky, very little in the south of France competes with it.

The honest picture. The villa is a museum run by the Académie des Beaux-Arts, so weddings are evening events held after public visiting hours, within careful rules to protect the collection and the gardens. There is no accommodation on site, and capacity and access are managed conservatively. This is a venue for an elegant cocktail and dinner in an extraordinary setting, not a free run buyout. Plan it with someone who has worked inside the museum's conditions.

Getting there
Cap Ferrat sits between Nice and Monaco, around twenty five minutes from Nice Côte d'Azur airport by road. The peninsula lanes are narrow, so coordinate guest transfers and parking carefully with your planner.
The legal bit
As elsewhere in France, the legally binding civil ceremony takes place at a town hall, so couples marry legally at the local mairie or at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in the gardens. A planner explains the current options.
Where guests stay
There is no accommodation at the villa. Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Nice offer grand hotels and smaller stays within a short drive. Reserve a block early, since the Riviera fills up across summer.
Wet weather
Much of the magic is outdoors in the gardens, so a wet plan matters. Discuss covered options and the museum's rules on marquees and the interior salons before you commit to a date.

What it costs

The villa quotes private hire individually, and a Riviera evening here with catering, production and staffing on top of the venue fee typically runs well into six figures for a full wedding. As a August 2025 guide, treat that as the broad band and ask for a written quotation against your date and numbers.

Treat all figures as indicative ranges and confirm directly with the venue.

Style, setting and who it suits

An evening in a jewel box.

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is theatre. Guests arrive into the rose pink loggia, drinks move through the themed gardens, and dinner sits on a terrace with the sea falling away on either side of the cape. The French garden with its dancing fountains is the centrepiece, and there are few backdrops anywhere on the Riviera that feel this composed without any styling at all. For couples who want one unforgettable evening rather than a sprawling weekend, this is among the most beautiful rooms in the south of France, except that the room is outdoors.

It suits a refined wedding of up to around two hundred who value setting above flexibility, and who are happy to work within a museum's protective rules. It is not the venue for couples who want a blank canvas, a multi day takeover or guests sleeping on site. Pair it with a planner who has produced an event inside the villa, agree the access window and the garden conditions in writing, and the Cap Ferrat magic does the rest.

Common questions

The villa, answered.

How many guests can the villa hold?

+

A seated dinner here typically reaches around two hundred guests, with higher numbers possible for a standing reception. The museum manages capacity carefully to protect the gardens and collection, so confirm the exact figure for your layout and date.

Can we legally marry at the villa?

+

In France the legally binding civil ceremony happens at a town hall, so couples marry legally at the local mairie or at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in the gardens. A planner explains the current options on Cap Ferrat.

When can the wedding take place?

+

The villa is a working museum open to the public by day, so weddings are evening events held after visiting hours within an agreed window. Build your timeline around that and confirm the access times with the venue.

Is there accommodation on site?

+

No. The villa is an event and museum venue, so guests stay in Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Nice, which offer grand hotels and smaller stays within a short drive. Reserve a block early for summer dates.

When is the best time to marry here?

+

The Riviera season runs from May to September, with June and September giving warm settled evenings and gardens at their best. July and August are hotter and very busy across the coast, so book early and plan transfers for the crowds.
