From the resort coast of Montego Bay to the cliffs of Negril and the gardens above Ocho Rios, Jamaica pairs an easy legal process with a warm, unhurried sense of place, choose an area to see the venues we rate.
Jamaica's wedding life centres on three stretches of the north and west coast: Montego Bay for resorts and access, Negril for its sunset cliffs and beaches, and Ocho Rios for lush gardens and waterfalls. The dry, breezy months from December to April are the time to go, and the country is one of the simplest places in the Caribbean to marry legally, with only a short residency before the ceremony.
Most Jamaican weddings are resort-led, and the standard varies widely, so the choice of property matters more than the choice of town. Montego Bay is the easiest for guests, with the main airport on its doorstep; Negril rewards couples who want a beach-and-cliff backdrop and a slower pace; Ocho Rios trades the beach for greenery, gardens and the island's interior. Each draws on its own venues and suppliers.
Plan around the weather and the paperwork, in opposite directions. December to April is dry and pleasant, while the summer and early autumn carry heat, humidity and hurricane risk. The legal process, by contrast, is refreshingly light: couples need only be on the island for a short period, typically around twenty-four hours, before marrying, with documents lodged in advance, which is part of why Jamaica is such a popular choice for a wedding that is both celebration and legal marriage in one trip.
