From the Georgian city of Dublin to the harbours and country houses around Cork, Ireland offers castles, green and a genuine welcome, choose an area to see the venues we rate.
Ireland's weddings cluster around Dublin in the east and Cork in the south, with castles and country estates scattered between them. The long, mild days of June to August give the best chance of kind weather, and the one rule no couple can skip is the three months' notice that must be given to a registrar in person before any legally binding ceremony.
Ireland trades on atmosphere rather than reliable sun: medieval castles, Georgian houses and a landscape that is green precisely because it rains. Dublin offers the polish of a capital and the easiest access for guests, while Cork and the south bring harbours, gardens and a softer pace. Wherever you marry, a proper wet-weather plan is not pessimism but good sense, so look for venues that are as lovely indoors as out.
On timing, the summer months from June to August give the warmest weather and the longest evenings, though showers are possible in any season. The legal process is the part to start early: couples must give at least three months' notice to a registrar, in person, before the ceremony, after which religious, civil and humanist weddings are all legally binding, humanist ceremonies have been recognised here for over a decade, which gives couples real freedom over where and how they marry.
