The best wedding venues in Mexico

Few countries give you so many weddings in one. Caribbean beaches, desert clifftops, jungle haciendas, and colonial courtyards, all within a short flight. Here are the venues we rate, and the truths a brochure leaves out.

Last reviewed February 2026. Capacities and prices are indicative and should be confirmed with each venue.
Our verdict

Mexico is the most versatile destination wedding country in the Americas, and four regions own the conversation.

The Riviera Maya is the easiest to reach, Los Cabos the most dramatic, the Yucatan the most characterful, and San Miguel de Allende the most romantic.

The honest catch is heat, humidity, and a hurricane season that runs through the autumn on the Caribbean side.

The quick answer

The finest wedding venues in Mexico cluster in four places. The Riviera Maya, near Cancun, offers polished beach resorts and jungle estates with the simplest logistics. Los Cabos pairs desert and sea for clifftop glamour. The Yucatan brings restored henequen haciendas full of history. San Miguel de Allende delivers colonial courtyards and rooftop ceremonies inland. Each is a different wedding, and each rewards a planner who knows the ground.

Why Mexico

Four regions, four very different weddings.

Mexico gives couples a genuine choice of settings within one country and one easy flight from North America. The Riviera Maya, the coast running south from Cancun, is the entry point for most. Its resorts and private estates sit on white sand with turquoise water beyond, the airport is close, and the wedding industry here is deep and practiced. It is the most reliable choice when guests are flying in from many places.

Los Cabos, at the tip of the Baja peninsula, is the country at its most cinematic, where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific in a landscape of cliffs and rock arches. The Yucatan inland is the characterful choice, where henequen haciendas restored to luxury hotels offer courtyards, chapels, and cenotes steeped in history. San Miguel de Allende, in the central highlands, is the romantic one, a colonial town of cobbled streets, rooftop terraces, and pink stone churches that suits couples who want culture over coastline.

The truth that unites them is the climate. The dry season from late autumn to spring is the time to marry, with warm days and low humidity. The Caribbean side carries a real hurricane risk from June through November, peaking in September and October, and summer anywhere brings heat and humidity that an afternoon ceremony will feel. Plan around the season and Mexico is as forgiving a destination as exists.

The edit

A spread across the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, the Yucatan, and San Miguel de Allende, chosen for the ceremony and the day around it. The order is our honest judgement, not commercial standing.

Cost and logistics

The practical things, told straight.

Mexico spans a wide range, from value driven all inclusive packages to ultra luxury buyouts that rival anywhere on earth. Treat every figure as indicative for February 2026 and confirm directly with the venue.

What it costs

Venue and event costs at the leading resorts and haciendas commonly run from around 10,000 to over 80,000 US dollars, with catering often 150 to 400 US dollars and up per head. All inclusive resorts bundle much of this into per person packages, while private estates and ultra luxury hotels price by buyout. These are indicative February 2026 figures.

The legal route

A legal Mexican wedding is a civil ceremony before a registry official, and requirements vary by state. It involves translated and apostilled documents, witnesses, and in many states blood tests taken locally. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here. See our guide to getting legally married in Mexico.

Season and hurricanes

The dry months from November to April are the time to marry on either coast. The Caribbean side carries a real hurricane risk from June through November, peaking in September and October. Travel insurance and a wet weather plan are not optional in those months.

Getting there

Cancun serves the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan with direct flights from across North America and Europe, Los Cabos serves Baja, and San Miguel de Allende is reached via Bajio or Mexico City. Build airport transfer time into the day, especially for inland venues.

Planners and vendors

A Mexican wedding lives on the local team.

Each region has its own suppliers, its own paperwork, and its own rhythm. A planner who works the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, or the Yucatan week in and week out is worth far more than a generalist, particularly for the legal route and the season.
