The best wedding venues on the Amalfi Coast

Ravello on its terraces, Positano on its cliffs, Amalfi at sea level. Six real venues couples actually marry at, ranked on merit, with the season and the logistics couples underestimate.

Our verdict

The Amalfi Coast is the most romantic stretch of shoreline in Italy, and the most logistically demanding. Ravello, high on the hill, owns the grand clifftop villas and the famous Terrace of Infinity. Positano and Amalfi sit at the water, dramatic but reached by a single winding road that turns short distances into long transfers.

The honest truth is that the coast photographs like a dream and tests your patience in equal measure. Steps, narrow lanes and summer traffic are the price of the view.

Choose Ravello for grandeur and space, Positano for glamour, Amalfi for ease at sea level.

The quick answer

For the grandest clifftop wedding choose Belmond Hotel Caruso or Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. For exclusive Positano glamour choose Villa TreVille or Le Sirenuse. For sea level ease choose Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi, or Villa Eva in Ravello for value. Marry in May, June, September or early October. The legal civil marriage is achievable with apostilled paperwork and a local planner.

When to marry here

The shoulders beat the peak.

Late May, June, September and early October are ideal, with warm settled weather and slightly thinner crowds. July and August are hot, humid and at peak tourist density, when the coast road is at its slowest. The winter months are quiet and many venues close, so spring and autumn are the sweet spot for both weather and access.

Cost and logistics

The practical things, told straight.

What it costs

Treat these as indicative ranges. Private villa hire on the coast often starts around fifteen to twenty five thousand euros for the venue alone, while luxury hotel catering frequently runs from about three hundred and fifty euros per guest before tax. A full coast wedding for fifty to one hundred guests commonly reaches well into the high tens of thousands once venue, catering, transfers and rooms are counted. Figures reviewed July 2025.

The single road

The State Road 163 is the only route along the coast, and in summer it can crawl. Distances that look short on a map become long, slow drives. Build generous time into transfers, consider a boat between towns where possible, and brief guests honestly about the journey.

The legal bit

Foreign couples can marry legally in Italy with a civil ceremony at a local town hall, supported by apostilled and translated documents and a declaration of no impediment, often arranged through your home consulate. Many couples complete the legal step and hold a symbolic ceremony at the venue. A local planner who knows the comune offices is invaluable.

Steps and access

Many of the most beautiful venues involve stairs and steep lanes. If you have older guests or anyone with limited mobility, ask each venue directly about lifts and step free routes. Hotel Santa Caterina and the Ravello hilltop are generally kinder on this front than the Positano cliffs.

Common questions

The Amalfi Coast, answered.

Ravello, Positano or Amalfi, which suits us?

+

Ravello sits high on the hill with the grand villas, gardens and the most space, ideal for a stately celebration. Positano is the glamorous cliffside postcard, best for exclusive, intimate parties. Amalfi at sea level is the easiest to reach and the gentlest on guests, with Hotel Santa Caterina a strong all rounder.

Can foreigners marry legally on the Amalfi Coast?

+

Yes. A legally binding civil ceremony at a local town hall is open to foreign couples with apostilled and translated documents and a declaration of no impediment. The paperwork is detailed, so most couples use a local planner. Many handle the legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the venue.

How big a wedding can the coast handle?

+

Most coast venues suit roughly fifty to one hundred and twenty guests. Villa Eva and the larger hotels can take the upper end, while the most exclusive estates and terraces are happiest with intimate numbers. For several hundred guests, this is not the easiest coastline, and a Tuscan or Sicilian estate may serve better.

When should we marry on the Amalfi Coast?

+

Late May, June, September and early October are best, with warm weather and slightly easier roads. July and August are hot and crowded, and many venues close in winter. The shoulders give you the best balance of weather, light and access.

How do guests get there?

+

Most fly into Naples, then transfer by car or private boat to the coast, which takes roughly ninety minutes to two hours depending on traffic and your town. A boat transfer is often quicker and far more pleasant than the road in high season.
